Miller, Frederick Charles 1906 - 1954
businessman, brewer, b. Milwaukee. He was the grandson of Frederick Miller (q.v.). He graduated from Notre Dame Univ. (1929) where he was a star football player. Returning to Milwaukee, he worked in his father's lumber, real estate, and mortgage business, and in 1936 became vice-president of the Miller Brewing Co. In 1947 he became president of the firm, and served in this capacity until his death. Through building expansion and advertising, he led the company to a high-ranking position among the nation's breweries. He also served as president of the Milwaukee Association of Commerce, was a member of the board of directors of various companies, and took a leading role in establishing the Milwaukee Arena and the Milwaukee County Stadium. He and his son, Fred Jr., were killed in an airplane crash near Milwaukee airport. Milwaukee Journal, Dec. 18, 1954; Milwaukee Press Club, Once a Year, 59 (1955).
