Miss America, and television personality; Meeuwsen was born in DePere, Wisconsin, March 2, 1949, to Joseph Meeuwsen and Bev Anderson. After attending St. Norbert College in DePere, she moved to Los Angeles where she sang with the folk music group the New Christy Minstrels for two years. In 1972 Meeuwsen won the Miss America Pageant and became Miss America 1973. After several years studying acting and singing, she began to host a talk show called "A New Day"  on a Milwaukee television station. A devout Christian, Meeuwsen also appeared on the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) show "The 700 Club," eventually becoming permanent co-host of the show with Pat Robertson. In 1981 she married  Andy Friedrich. Adoption is one of her special concerns, and the couple have seven children, including Korean and biracial sons, and three daughters from the Ukraine.
