newspaperman, soldier, politician, b. Watson, N.Y. He moved to Wisconsin in 1857. During the Civil War he served in Company K, 1st Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry (1861-1865), was captured at the Battle of Chickamauga (Sept. 20, 1863), and spent over a year in various Confederate prisons. After leaving the service in 1865 he learned the printer's trade and was associated with various newspapers in Fond du Lac, Clinton (Iowa), and Oshkosh. In 1873 he purchased the Stevens Point journal, a weekly which he published with various partners until 1919. In 1895 he began issuing the Stevens Point Daily Journal, the first daily in the city, and was co-editor of this paper until 1917. A Republican, he was state assemblyman (1889-1890), and was postmaster of Stevens Point (1889-1893).
