Mcgavick, Alexander Joseph 1863 - 1948 | Wisconsin Historical Society

Catholic priest, bishop, b. Fox Lake, Ill. He graduated from St. Viator's College (Ill.), and was ordained in the priesthood in 1887. He served several pastorates in Chicago, and in 1899 was appointed auxiliary bishop of that city. In 1921 he was made Bishop of La Crosse, and served in this capacity until his death. During his incumbency he helped build and furnish St. Joseph's Home for the Aged, and Aquinas High School in La Crosse. He was the author of Incentives to Right Living (1909). Who Was Who in Amer.
