Lyons (Walworth)

Origin of Lyons, Wisconsin

Lyons, Wisconsin | Wisconsin Historical Society
Dictionary of Wisconsin History.

Lyons (township) was set off from the town of Geneva by Act of January 23, 1844 and was named Hudson. James C. and Thomas K. Hudson came in 1846; but as their names are not found in the earliest records it is not very probably that they named their town. It is rather likelier that they named their town from the Hudson river in New York as many of the settlers were from there. p. 372 of Beckwith's History of Walorth county. The name was later changed to Lyons when Hudson in St. Croix seemed to have the stronger claim. The name was one of the early settling Lyon family.
