lumberman, politician, b. Wayne, Me. He settled in Janesville in 1850. He began his career by opening a retail lumberyard in 1859. Subsequently, he became the owner of several lumberyards in the state and acquired large real estate and industrial holdings in the Janesville area. Lovejoy served in the state Assembly (1879), and state Senate (1887-1890), and was mayor of Janesville (1881). He was a director and officer in several prominent Wisconsin lumber companies, including the Merrill Lumber Company, Red Cliff Lumber Company, and U.S. Lumber Co., and was a director and vice-president of the First National Bank in Janesville.
