Wisconsin Census Enumeration 1895: Names of Ex-Soldiers and Sailors Residing in Wisconsin, June 20, 1895

In 1885, 1895, and 1905, Wisconsin's Secretary of State listed every Civil War veteran living in the state and published them as appendices to the state census. These three works together contain about 75,000 names on more than 1,000 pages, and often show information about a Civil War soldier that is not easily available anywhere else. Each volume includes soldiers who served in units from other states as well as Wisconsin, or who belonged to units in the U.S. Army, Navy, or Colored Troops.

 The 1895 volume shown here is subdivided into several discrete sections, each separately alphabetized.  After clicking "View This Document" below, use the left-hand navigation panel to browse the contents of all three volumes and open up the sections of interest.

You can also employ the box at the upper left of the screen to search for surnames or locations, but be aware that searches are not 100% reliable because the page images were converted to searchable text by machine. Always browse, if possible, as well.
