Development of Farming in Sauk County: A reminiscence


William Toole came to Wisconsin from New England with his family in 1859.  Settling in Excelsior in Sauk County, Toole recounts the changing state of farming in the area in the mid-19th century, including wheat and corn farming, the introduction new farm machinery, livestock, and the hops craze.
