Additional Comments
2025; Oakwood Cemetery’s decorative ironwork fence was constructed circa 1925. The iron fencing fronts onto East Huron Street where the fence line is pierced twice by a monumental gateway and a secondary entry towards the southeastern corner. The black ironwork, shaped into spears, wraps around the front corners and terminates shortly after in a pair of stone pillars. It is joined on the east and west sides by the diamond lattice wrought iron railings of the 1888 Huron Street swing bridge, which were repurposed into cemetery fencing in 1931, after the bridge’s demolition. Associated with 6 other AHI entries within Oakwood Cemetery: #48727 entrance #48729 garage #48730 Griffith Memorial Chapel #48731 stone retaining wall #48732 cemetery #48733 park pavilion
