Waist-up seated studio portrait of Martin Jorgensen, a private in Company A, 15th Wisconsin Infantry. The following information was obtained from the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20 of Wisconsin Volunteers: He resided in Chicago, Illinois. On October 28, 1861, he enlisted and was eventually mustered into service in Madison, Wisconsin on November 15, 1861, at the age of 22. He was severely injured during the battle at Stone River, Tennessee and was sent first to a hospital in Nashville, Tennessee then to a Marine hospital in Chicago, Illinois. After recovering from the wounds received he was then transferred to the Veterans Reserve Corps (V.R.C) [also known as the Invalid Corps] on February 11, 1864.
