Chester Thordarson was a Chicago inventor and manufacturer of electical apparatus, famous for inventing the electrical transformer in 1904. He was also known for his bequest of what was the core of the UW-Madison rare book collection and his estate on Rock Island in Door County. This item, from the Thordarson's Electrical Specialties catalog is described as having a mahogany case that is "lock-cornered, highly polished and finished with the best grade of varnish available for outdoor use. Made in removable and non-removable vibrators."
