Speed presses stamp out core laminations for transformers at Thordarson Electical Manufacturing Company. Chester Thordarson was a Chicago inventor and manufacturer of electical apparatus, famous for inventing the electrical transformer in 1904. He was also known for his bequest of what was the core of the UW-Madison rare book collection and his estate on Rock Island in Door County.
