Burnt Buildings

Image

View of a badly damaged house at left, and a pile of rubble in the background where the home of William and Gladys McGrath once stood. Both McGraths were killed in the blast and fire. This was one of two separate explosions and fires that took place on North Bassett Street and East Main Street. The Bassett Street event also destroyed Hyland Hall & Co., White Cross Pharmacy, and Capitol Upholstering Shop. The Main Street event destroyed Hansen Auto Body Works and portions of the Red Arrow Sales Co., and a quonset hut nearby.
