About the Historic Preservation Review Board
The Governor-appointed Historic Preservation Review Board reviews and acts on nominations to the State Register and the National Register of Historic Places. The 15-member board consists of nine professionals in the fields of architecture, archaeology, art history, and history; and six professionals in related fields, including landscape architecture, law, urban and regional planning, and real estate. Board members serve on one of three committees: Architecture, History, or Anthropology.

How to attend the Review Board Meeting
The February 27, 2026 Review Board meeting will be held in person and online at the Wisconsin Historical Society, 816 State Street, Madison. Members of the public may attend the meeting in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society or online via Zoom when the registration goes live. Attendees may request to speak regarding any item on the November agenda during the public comment period of the meeting. Individual speakers will be limited to two minutes per person.

State Historic Preservation Office
The Society serves as Wisconsin’s federally designated State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO). The SHPO helps people connect to the past through historic places. We coordinate state and federal preservation programs that help the people of Wisconsin preserve historic places that are important to their communities. We also maintain state records for historic properties and archaeological sites.
