Wade House Opening Day

The official opening of Wade House. Amid great fanfare, complete with an appearance by poet Carl Sandburg, Wade House opened to the public on June 6th, 1953, as the Wisconsin Historical Society's second historic site. More than 2,000 people lined up to view Wade House following the dedication ceremonies. The Kohler family purchased and began restoration of Wade House in 1950. Upon completion, it was deeded to the Wisconsin Historical Society. The building is surrounded by a white wooden fence and many stately trees. |
