Turning Points
in Wisconsin History
A field in a glaciated part of Wisconsin, 1960
Contoured cornfield after harvest (1960)
Paul Vanderbilt, the first curator of photography at the Wisconsin Historical Society, took this photo of a field near Hollandale in 1960. The photograph plainly shows how glaciers stripped the landscape of its ancient hills and valleys. Compare it with the photograph by H.H. Bennett also presented on the "Physical Geography of Wisconsin" page.
