The Founding and Early History of Madison
Madison History
Our capital city has been occupied for thousands of years, was home to fur-traders and Indians in the early 19th century, was selected capital in 1836, and became a city in 1856. This collection of documents, pictures, articles, museum objects, essays and other sources was created in 2006 for the city's sesquicentennial, and brings together primary sources and interpretive essays on early Madison history.
