La Follette Casket Flag

Robert La Follette passed away on June 18, 1925, marking the end of a political career that brought long-lasting change to both state and national politics. After his death, La Follette's body lay in state inside the capitol rotunda, covered by this American flag. La Follette was buried in Forest Hill Cemetary in Madison on June 22. The flag was used again in 1953, when Robert La Follette Jr. died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
