The History and Status of Indochinese Refugees in La Crosse, Wisconsin

As more Hmong refugees began settling in Wisconsin in the late 1970s and 1980s, many state and community organizations were established to aid in the resettlement process. Organized in 1982, the La Crosse Area Hmong Mutual Assistance Association provides resources, technical and financial assistance, and training to meet the needs of the local Hmong American community. This report provides an overview of Hmong history and culture, reviews some of the principle difficulties faced by refugees, and discusses the services offered by the organization. This report is generously provided by the La Crosse Area Hmong Mutual Assistance Association.
