Golfers in Wisconsin

Although the origins of golf remain controversial, golf came to the United States in the late nineteenth century. The nation's first 18-hole course opened at the Chicago Golf Club in Wheaton, Illinois, in 1893. The following year, the Janesville Country Club became Wisconsin's first golf club and only the sixth such club in the nation. In 1901, the Wisconsin State Golf Association was formed and cities across the state began organizing their own clubs. These images, primarily from the 1930s, are of Wisconsin golfers.
