Madison Turnverein
The turnverein movement was brought to Wisconsin by German immigrants. Turnerbund, or gynastics, was a popular form of physical exercise among German Turners who sought to make physical education a part of all American schools. In this image, men and women from the Madison Turnverein perform a circle formation.
