An 1897 bamboo bicycle
Fishing Pole Bike
In the nineteenth century, many Americans took advantage of new bicycle technology to explore the country. The Huseby Cycle Manufacturing Company of Milwaukee produced this bamboo bicycle in 1897. Bamboo was commonly used for fishing poles in the first part of the twentieth century which is why the author refers to the bicycle as made of "fishing poles."
