Anti-suffrage poster from the 1912 referendum
Danger! Women's Suffrage would double the irresponsible vote!
Strange as it now seems, many people opposed women's right to vote. As late as 1912, it was defeated in a public referendum by a two-to-one margin. This poster printed in Watertown during that referendum claimed it was "a menace to the home, men's employment and all business."
