Description
From global conflict and economic collapse to dazzling innovations in science, technology, agriculture, and politics, “few periods in the history of the state, the nation, or the world,” writes author Paul W. Glad, “have encompassed change more profound than those of the years from 1914 to 1940.” This fifth installment in the six-volume History of Wisconsin series takes readers from the outbreak of the Great War in Europe, through the Great Depression, to the eve of American entry into World War II. Through the turmoil and conflict, Wisconsin continued to see advances in industry, agriculture, political progressivism, and workers’ rights. For the people of Wisconsin, this New Era was marked by a growing awareness of the interconnectedness of humans and nations—in the marketplace, in social relations, and in ideology.
