Description
Although the years 1873 to 1893 lacked the well-known, dramatic events of the periods before and after, these two decades reflect a major transformation in Wisconsin’s economy and society. From volatile economic swings to great movements of people from farms and villages to urban areas, this period saw sweeping changes in the ways people lived, worked, associated, and responded to the society around them. This third in the monumental six-volume history of the state concentrates on three major areas—the economy, communities, and politics and government—while adding substantially to our knowledge and understanding of a crucial but often overlooked period.
