Wisconsin Historical Collections Landscape Project
About the Wisconsin Historical Collections Landscape Project
The Wisconsin Historical Collections Landscape Project (WHCLP) is a six-year initiative to better understand, and further facilitate resources and connection among, the locations, collection scopes, and needs of historical record keepers in what is today Wisconsin. At their 2023 strategic planning session, the Wisconsin Historical Records Advisory Board and stakeholders created the WHCLP to address a major factor contributing to siloing historical record keepers today: a lack of current understanding about where historical record collections are located within the state. The WHCLP will endeavor to compile information and products about the location and scope of historical record collections to ensure historical record keepers are not siloed and rather, have avenues to connect with others near and far across the state to address collaborative needs and interests. The WHCLP is made possible through the generous support of the National Historical Publications and Records Commission.
Mission
The Wisconsin Historical Collections Landscape Project will work to facilitate understanding and networking about and among historical record keepers and historical record collections within the state.
Vision
The Wisconsin Historical Collections Landscape Project will benefit historical record keepers and their communities across the state by facilitating shared resources that address needs and interests.
Interactive Map
The interactive map makes it easy to find information about historical record collections in the counties and Native nations that share geography with what is today Wisconsin. Whether your goal is finding records or professional networking, everyone—from history enthusiasts to local governments and organizations with record keeping professionals and volunteers—will find something useful. The map is non-exhaustive, contact us if you know of a historical records collection not currently on the map.
