RETURNED EAVES 2019: Ell wing porch roof changed from hipped to shed. Windows in 1979 photo depict 2/2 light sash; current windows are six-over-six and eight-over-eight. Round vent added in peak and shutters installed. 2019 New Berlin survey recommendation write-up: This one-and-one-half-story, Greek Revival-style house is sheathed with clapboard and features corner boards that rise to meet a wide wooden cornice. Oriented to the east, a central wooden door with a plain classical surround is flanked at either side by a single, eight-over-eight-light, double-hung sash window, while the upper floor carries a pair of six-over-six-light sash. All windows along the entrance elevation include decorative shutters. A one-story ell wing extends from the home’s south end and is fronted by an open porch with plain square wooden supports. Windows along the ell are also six-over-six light sash. Completed in 1860, this house was built by Thomas and Janet Boyd. The Boyds immigrated to the United States from Scotland and settled in New Berlin in 1849, residing first in a log house. Thomas died in 1877 and the farm would later be taken over by their youngest son George and his wife Susan. Janet died in 1902. The farm continued in the Boyd family, passing to George and Susan’s son Wallace Graham Boyd, who died in 1983. The property remains today in the Boyd family.
