This building has historical interest as a long-term saloon. However, the businesses were not individually historically significant. The building contributes, though, to the overall development of commerce in the Main Street Commercial historic district.
A simple vernacular brick commercial building constructed for J. Plaka in 1868, this two-story, three-bay building is characterized mainly by a molded and denticulated brick cornice. Rectangular windows with flat stone lintels remain on the upper facade.
Originally used as a produce store, the Plaka building has been latere dby the addition of a contemporary storefront constructed of red brick and glass block. A concrete block addition is located at the rear of the building.
The J. Plaka building is a commercial vernacular building ornamented only by a raised brick cornice. Although this building is not architecturally significant, the Plaka building contributes to the historic architectural character of the proposed Main Street Historic District.
The J. Plaka building is very similar to the adjacent buildings at 405 (65-6), 409 (65-4), and 411 (68-11) East Main Street.
