This building was constructed around 1914 for the Watertown Grocery Company. The company was incorporated in that same year. By 1930 the buliding was also being used as a storage warehouse and by 1945 it was the warehouse for the Watertown Egg and Produce Company. This building has some historical interest as the location of the Watertown Grocery Company. This business was not a particularly significant wholesale trade business and is not individually important. But it is of interest as the only known wholesale grocery business in the community. Built in the early 20th century, this building exhibits a brick triangular pediment shaped parapet above a plain small masonry cornice that is visually supported by capped brick two-story applied pilasters. Segmental arched windows on the side elevations, plain rectangular windows with multipaned sashes and raised brick patterns on the facade further characterize this well preserved building. A white concrete pediment supported by consoles is found over the off-set entrance door. The Watertown Grocery Company building is significant under criterion C as an example of industrial architecture influenced by the early 20th century Neo-Classical style. One of very few well-preserved examples of industrial architecture in Watertown, the Watertown Grocery Co. building exhibits the stylized pedimented facade characteristically found in Neo-Classical influenced design in the early 20th century. Other good examples of 20th century commercial architecture influenced by historica styles include the Brandt Co. office building at 515-517 South 1st (43-14), the Biefeld Building at 118 No. Water and the Van Camp building at 500 Milford (58-29).
