This local landmark (designated in 1984) is a two and one-half story brick Queen Anne house that has a steeply-pitched intersecting gable rof. Windows are generally single-pane double-hung sashes. There are segmental brick arches with stone trim over the windows. Some windows are larger single panes that are decorated like other windows. Two large brick chimney projects from the roof. They are decorated with brick corbelling. A porch covers one of the entrances. It has fieldstone piers and a balustrade with small square posts supporting the flat roof. The porch was added in the 1930s. There is also a 1927 brick addition off the rear of the house.
ARCHITECTURAL/ ENGINEERING SIGNIFICANCE
Mequon has few brick houses and few houses as stylistic as this building. The brickwork shows a high level of preservation and because it is a good example of Queen Anne houese in Mequon, it is significant for architecture in the city.
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
This house was owned and probably built for John Guidinger between 1892 and 1954. [a] Electricity was added to the house in 1926.
