Additional Comments
"A frame building owned by John Swarthout was the first drug store in Columbia County. He rented offices to James Lewis and Dr. Axtel, the first lawyer and doctor in town. Swarthout drugstore became the local gathering place for Republicans. The Civil War news was read aloud from a chair on the counter." Columbus Historic Architecture Tours, undated.
