Additional Comments
THIS IS A SIMPLE TWO STORY COMMERCIAL BLOCK HIGHLIGHTED BY FOUR SEGMENTAL ARCH OPENINGS ON THE SECOND FLOOR AND DECORATIVE BRICKWORK ALONG THE CORNICE LINE. IT HAS A RECTANGULAR PLAN CONFIGRUATION, A FLAT ROOF, A RECESSED ENTRANCE, STONE LINTELS AND A BRICK EXTERIOR. THE BUILDING IS PRESENTLY (1983) PART OF THE NEIGHBORING STORE, THE COAST TO COAST HARDWARE STORE. THIS STRUCTURE WAS FOUND IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. THE DATE 1892 APPEARS ON THE BUILDING AND IS BELIVED TO BE THE DATE OF CONSTRUCTION. (A). THE HISTORIC COMMERCIAL USES OF THIS BUILDING WERE AS A FURNITURE STORE AND A NOTIONS STORE. (B,C).

HISTORIC BACKGROUND:
IN 1894, A FURNITURE STORE OCCUPIED THIS TWO-STORY BRICK BUILDING ADJACENT TO REED'S OPERA HOUSE, 219 W. MAPLE STREET, 8/5. (B). A LATER PHOTOGRAPH (1900) OF THE STRUCTURE SHOWS THAT MARTIN McDONALD WAS THE PROPRIETOR OF THE NOTIONS AND ONE CENT STORE THAT OCCUPIED THE BUILDING. (C).
