Property Features
The front of the house is dominated by the void of the veranda which is covered by the slope of the roof which is supported by square red brick pillars. The roof is pierced in front by a sunken gabled roof dormer with one short squat column in the Doric Order at each side of three small rectangular windows. The rear of the house features a central wall dormer and the original garage stands at the rear of the lot and is made of similar materials.
SIGNIFICANCE: This large bungalow is architecturally significant as a locally unusual adn well-designed example of Bungaloid style architecture. Of the dozens of bungalows built in Ashland, none equal this house in scale, quality of design, and craftsmanship of materials.
Elmer Sanders was a renowned heavyweight wrestler who lived at this property.
2016: Some (all?) of the original multiple-light windows have been replaced with one-over-one examples and the small columns that previously accented the roof dormer have been removed.
