The National Register Nomination form, the historic name was spelled "Manschot". Another map code is 5/31 on the LUQS 393 map This structure is an excellent example of surviving post-Civil War residences. Representative of the early Italianate period it is in superb condition and has had only slight alterations. The outstanding quality of this building is that it is one of the finest and rarest examples remaining in the city. For additional photo see Retake #2, Neg. 36. "In style the home resembles the Keenan house and is a less elaborate example of the same Italian Villa mode, popular in American domestic architecture fro the 1840's through the 1870's. As only minor additions have been made to the home, its appearance is much as it was a century ago, and its 19th-century character has been enhanced by the restoration work of its present owners. Among those who occupied the home in the past were former Wisconsin Governor, Francis E. McGovern, and his family."
