R.F. Wilson, born in Maryland in 1825, first came to Eau Claire in 1854 and returned as a permanent settler a year later. Wilson purchased half interest in 200 acres of land on the east side of the Chippewa River. The other half was purchased by W.H. Gleason, Jesse Gage and James Reed. The last two named sold their portion to Adin Randall, who in turn sold to Chapman, Thorp and Burnham. In addition to his land holdings, Wilson was involved in the Lafayette Lumber Company which had a mill in Chippewa County and in the Eau Claire-based Pioneer Lumber Company. Wilson Park, just south of the city's main business district, was donated by Wilson (B).
