Updated: 8/2024, Carol Cartwright The Rectory sits behind the church building and according to the NRQ was built in 1933. It is a simple American Foursquare style building with a square form, hip roof, brown brick walls, and a concrete foundation. There is a small, one-story ell that projects from one of the side walls with the same type of construction. Openings vary in size, but are largely filled with double-hung sashes with single lower lights and vertically divided upper lights, some paired or grouped in threes. The main entrance is covered with a gable-roofed overhand with brown brick piers. The rear of the building features a full-length enclosed porch of brown brick and openings filled with the same type of sash windows that are used in the main walls. A one-story garage ell projects from the raised foundation on one of the elevations. The Monfort area had a large community of Czech Catholic residents in the early 20th century, but no local Catholic church. Finally, in 1925, after convincing the diocese hierarchy to form another church and raising enough money, St. Thomas Church opened. The church was built using labor from the congregation and was designed by Ferdinand L. Kronenberg, a prolific late nineteenth and early twentieth century architect from Madison. The rectory was built in 1933 and the school was built in 1964. The church is still an active Catholic congregation.
