Additional Comments
This 2-story Twentieth Century Commercial building was constructed in 1907 by the Hillsboro Cement Company for R.A. Armbruster and W.C. Hansberry. The building initially served as a clothing store, but had transitioned to a general store by 1914. It is rectangular in plan with red brick walls and a flat roof. The front elevation faces southeast and is symmetrical in composition with a recessed center entrance flanked by large shop windows. Another bank of shop windows wraps around the southern corner of the building. The entrance and shop window bays are defined by original, cast iron columns with decorative detailing. The metal-framed glass entry door and shop windows are modern replacements, but occupy the original spaces designed for these elements. Corrugated metal bulkhead walls line the space below the shop windows. A metal awning spans the façade above the storefront and wraps around the southern corner of the building. Above this is a band of corrugated metal panels. Three narrow, horizontal brick panels are located above this with a narrow metal cornice band above. A series of elevated segmentally-arched 2-over-2 windows is located along the southwest elevation. The southwest elevation also contains a secondary entrance and a separate bank of shop windows near the rear of the building.
