Additional Comments
2018- The Buckbee Road Bridge is located in the Town of Larrabee in Waupaca County. The bridge crosses the South Branch of the Pigeon River on Buckbee Road, about 4 miles northwest of Clintonville. It was constructed in 1906 for about $900 by G. J. Huhn of Clintonville. The engineer is not known. During the course of construction, it was deemed necessary by town and county officials to place the piers on wood pilings. This was done by day labor. The structure is a rubble-fieldstone, three-arch bridge with cast-iron drain pipes in the spandrel walls and standard-plan, modern, highway metal railings, which probably replaced original pipe railings. The arches spring from piers that have been encased in concrete to prevent scour. The date of this alteration is unknown. The arches are segmental, rising about 3 feet 6 inches over spans of about 10 feet 6 inches. The ring stones, like the rest of the stonework, are essentially boulders plucked from the field with little shaping. The bridge has full-retaining abutments. The bridge’s length, including abutments, is about 68 feet; its width about 20 feet. The structure’s original design seems to have been typical of several short-span, multiple-arch, fieldstone bridges constructed in Waupaca County during the early 1900s. stone arch bridge
