Property Features
Located in Burnham Playfield. Utilitarian park structure with references to the Colonial Revival style, including Palladian windows in gable peaks and classical door surrounds.
"The Fieldhouse was constructed in 1927, and is a 1-story, cross-gabled building with Colonial Revival stylistic references, located just east of the center point of the playfield. It has a concrete block foundation and asphalt-shingled roof. Walls are constructed of common-coursed red brick, with raised brick quoins at each of the corners. The enclosed pediment at each gable end is faced with stucco, and the eaves of the gables retain their plain block modillions. Entryways are located in the center of each of the four facades, with two 1-over-1 windows evenly spaced on either side. The entryways on the north, west, and south facades feature a full classical entablature surround with pilasters on each side, while the entryway on the east facade is topped with a simple cast stone lintel with raised keystone. Window openings throughout feature a cast stone still and an arched brick lintel with keystone. Palladian windows are located in the center of the enclosed pediments on each of the four elevations. While the original surrounds for these doors and windows have been maintained, the openings have been partially filled in with modern metal doors, 1-over-1 double hung windows, and plain black paneling. An 8-sided cupola at the peak of the cross gable features an original weathervane depicting two children playing, an image which is duplicated on neighborhood street signs. Restrooms with both exterior and interior entrances are located at the northeast and southeast corners." UWM Cultural Resource Management
