The school (AHI# 229637) is attached to the east
elevation of the church. Constructed in 1955, the St. Matthew School was expanded in 1962 and again in 1968, and is a
one-story vernacular school with walls clad in brick resting on a concrete foundation. The flat roof is covered in
membrane and extends to shelter wide window bands that have been infilled with vinyl siding and downsized replacement
windows. The main entrance, located on the north elevation, consists of a set of triple doors with three horizontally
divided lights. A gymnasium wing on the school's north elevation has brick walls and a low-pitched gable roof. Narrow
bands of windows beneath the eaves on the gymnasium's east and west (side) elevations have been infilled with vinyl
siding and contain downsized replacement windows. A central entrance on the north elevation has a concrete surround
and triple doors. Located north of the school, the parish hall is connected to it by a one-story hyphen.
The school itself is a modest example of a mid-century school and the loss of historic window bands has
diminished its integrity, and the parish hall is a modest example of a contemporary building. The rectory, although intact,
is a modest example of a common vernacular form and lacks architectural interest.
