The previously-inventoried depot was constructed in 1910. The single-story building has a hipped asphalt
shingle roof, clapboard siding, and a concrete foundation. A wooden ramp accesses the main entrance on the west-facing
elevation. The building features wide eaves with brackets, a central brick chimney, and a bay window. The fenestration
pattern is simple and includes four-over-four double hung windows and multi-light transoms. The interior could not be
accessed.
The Gordon depot was constructed for the Soo Line in 1910. It
functioned as a passenger and freight depot. The dwindling logging industry and the increase in automobile transpmtation
led to a decline in railroad usage in the second half of the twentieth century. By 1981, the Soo no longer needed the depot
in Gordon. In an effort to save the depot from demolition, the Gordon-Wascott Historical Society purchased the building
and moved it to its current location in 1990. The Gordon-Wascott Historical Society currently maintains the depot as part
of their museum collection. Although the building has been moved, it played an important role in Gordon's economic
history, and it is a good example of an early twentieth century depot.
