BRACKETED EAVES,FRONTBAY TRANSOM OVER DOOR*PEDIMENTED GABLES The house located at 6114 Sheridan Road is a two and a half story, two bay wide, wood frame residence. It could be described as Queen Anne in style with Classical Revival influences. It rests on a stone foundation, is clad in wood clapboard siding and is capped with a cross gabled roof with asphalt shingles. A chimney rises from intersection of the gables at the roof ridge. A full width covered front porch is located on the front façade. The porch is supported with classical columns underneath a flat entablature. The porch covers the offset main entrance. The entrance features a wooden decorative screen door of the period. Adjacent to the entry is a 1/1 sash window and a cottage style window with decorative lights. The second floor of the house features two window grouping: one of a similar cottage design as the first floor, the other a 1/1 double hung sash window. In historic pictures of the home a row of three windows are features in the third story gable. They were not visible at the time of survey. On both side elevations, the roof eaves extend with exposed rafter tails. Centered under each cross gable is a two-story canted bay, each containing single 1/1 double hung sash windows The end gables features a single light square window. Further back on the sides of the house are paired 1/1 double hung windows. A one and half story addition was added to the rear of the house. The house located at 6114 Sheridan Road was built ca. 1910 based on its appearance in the city directories. The City of Kenosha changed its street names in September of 1926. The old street address for this residence was 465 Sheridan Road. The building was first resided in by Samual Anderson beginning in 1910 through 1923 when it was purchased by Edward Regnier. A review of WHPD for similar, extant, style houses listed under “Colonial Revival/Georgian Revival” resulted in sixty-one properties. A similar search using “Queen-Anne” resulted in thirty-one properties. The house does retain original features of the era including wooden clapboard siding, porch and screen door. The overall plan appears to remain intact with only a small rear addition. Though these original features remain it is a common example of the Queen Anne style featuring Colonial and Georgian Revival influences. The mix of these styles was typical of the middle to upper middle class American homes built of the era when builders began to simplify Victorian home forms while drawing inspiration from early American architecture
