South Side Historic District Walking Tour Guide, 1993.: "The oldest section of this Greek Revival house was built by Patrick Talty, a drayman, in 1865 it became home of John and Marion McMynn. John G. McMynn (1824-1900) was a distinguished Wisconsin educator. He was the first principal of Racine's High School, where in 1858 he graduated the first high school class in Wisconsin history. He was one of the founders of the Wisconsin Teacher's Association. He was also a regent of the University of Wisconsin."
