This four-story building is commercial in style and imposingly large with a reinforced concrete exterior and red brick spandrels. Floral designs are visible on the cornice. 245,000 square feet in total.
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND AND SIGNIFICANCE:
This building offered 25,000 feet of heated fireproof terminal manufacturing space extending 440 feet along the Milwaukee riverfront, with three four-ton freight elevators, high pressure steam services and river dockage. It was occupied immediately after completion by a publishing firm and the School of Engineering of Milwaukee. By 1932 the building housed at least 10 different whoesale, retail and storage companies. Still crowned by its original 40,000 steel water tank, it is presently occupied by a commercial printer, a local nut retailer and by several manufacturers.
