Summary
Robert B. and Estelle J. Webb House
200 Central Avenue, Florence, Florence County
Date of Construction: 1883
Robert B. Webb,a successful hardware store owner in Florence, had this house constructed in 1883 just four years after the Village of Florence was established. The Queen Anne style was chosen, and though a popular style, this house stands out as one of the largest and most elaborate examples in Florence. The primary facade is dominated by a projecting gable front ornamented with wood trim in the gable. The elaborate scrolls and floral motifs give the gables a lacey appearance. Patterned wood shingles in the gable offset the wood clapboards on the walls while the porches add more dramatic emphasis. The open porches have spindlework friezes, turned columns and elaborate turned balustrade elements, all of which are hallmarks of the Queen Anne style.
