Settled between the 1850s and the 1890s, the Old Fourth Ward Historic District, located southwest of Janesville's downtown commercial district, contains more than 1,000 buildings in the relatively dense working class residential neighborhood. Small to medium sized structures are good examples of vernacular architecture.
