This map of eastern Virginia and Maryland shows rivers, roads and railroads from Hagerstown, Maryland, south to Suffolk, Virginia, and west to Staunton, Virginia. An "Explanations" panel at the lower left explains that the purpose of this map is to allow readers to mark the positions of opposing armies "on the receipt of every telegram from the seat of war.
