Autographed Portrait of Fleet Admiral C.W. Nimitz

An autographed quarter-length portrait of Fleet Admiral Chester William Nimitz in his office at CinCPac/CinCPOA Advanced Headquarters on Guam. He is standing in front of a map of the Pacific Ocean. The left side of the map is showing China, Taiwan and the Philippines. Nimitz is wearing a uniform shirt and tie with the five star insignia on his collar and on his tie clasp. The tie clasp was a gift. At the bottom of the photograph is written: "30 Apr 45, To Robert Doyle, with best wishes, C.W. Nimitz." On March 30th, 1942, the newly-formed US-British Combined Chiefs of Staff appointed Nimitz as Commander in Chief, Pacific Ocean Areas with operational control over all Allied units (air, land, and sea) in that area. Admiral Nimitz was promoted to Fleet Admiral of the United States Navy on December 15th, 1944.
