World War I Trucks

Trucks of the Four Wheel Drive Company of Clintonville manufactured at the Kissel Motor Car Company plant in Hartford during World War I, thus uniting in one photograph two early Wisconsin automobile manufacturers. The Kissel Kar Company manufactured automobiles from 1906 until the Depression. The Four Wheel Drive Company of Clintonville was founded by inventors Otto Zachow and William A Besserdich following their 1909 invention of the first four-wheel drive automobile. During World War I they manufactured over 20,000 trucks for the Allies. Today the company manufactures fire engines.
