Octagonal House

This building, on an entire block of Spaight and Brearly Streets with Lake Monona, was originally the governor's mansion for Leonard J. Farwell. The Farwell mansion was the first of two octagonal houses built in Madison. It then became a home for the orphans of Civil War soldiers and finally became the Monona Academy, a Norwegian Lutheran seminary. This building was leveled in 1895.
